New Manuscript Published on the Roles of p38α and p38β MAPK in Anthracycline Cardiotoxicity

Our newly published manuscript in AJP Heart and Circulatory Physiology demonstrates sexual dimorphism in the roles of p38α and p38β MAPK during Doxorubicin induced cardiotoxicity. While p38α plays a role in early cardiotoxicity in males, p38β MAPK is cardioprotective in females during Doxorubicin therapy. Together with our previous work published in the same journal in 2019, our research demonstrates the four p38 MAPK isoforms have unique and even opposing functions in either promoting or preventing cardiotoxicity during chemotherapy. Furthermore, their roles were dependent on the sex of the subject. This work highlights the necessity to develop sex- and isoform-specific therapy for cardiotoxicity.
